What we do in Key Stage 5:
We offer the chance to study A Level PE and BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport through the Pearson/Edexcel exam board. There are certain entry requirements students must meet in order to be entered for these courses.
Assessment for Key Stage 3 and core PE is completed in line with the levels from the National Curriculum. GCSE PE is assessed by practical ability (48%), coursework (12%) and exam (40%). All BTEC Sport courses are assessed through coursework of various units. A Level PE is 50% coursework and 50% for the exam.
There is no homework set in Key Stage 3 PE. In Key Stages 4 and 5 homework is set on a two-weekly cycle and is completed online on the Blended Learning site.
Skills are gained for the future:
Personal health and fitness is a major concern in society with the ever growing incidence of hypokinetic diseases, such as obesity and cardiovascular disease. We have an ageing population and the skills and knowledge learnt in PE will hopefully help in living a healthy life. There are plenty of career opportunities including: physiotherapy, exercise physiologist, nutritionist, PE teacher, personal trainer, sports marketing etc.
