Hundreds Attend Open Evening
Over 350 families headed to Cornwallis Academy’s Open Evening to explore the fantastic range of subjects and facilities the school has to offer.
Primary school pupils, together with their parents, guardians and siblings, were warmly welcomed at the academy’s annual open event, which took place on Wednesday, 21st September, by our Year 7 student guides, who hosted insightful tours of the building and were on hand to answer any queries.
During the evening, guests were treated to a range of engaging demonstrations and activities, including exciting experiments in the Science laboratories, a Maths Mocktail Masterclass, a themed-quiz with the English team, who dressed up as characters for the occasion, musical and acting showcases by the Performing Arts students, and a variety of sporting challenges with the PE department, to name a few.
Principal, Mrs Linney-Drouet, delivered two presentations on the night, which gave the prospective students and their families the opportunity to find out more about the academy and its high standards.
The academy’s Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as two Year 7 students, joined Mrs Linney-Drouet on stage and gave speeches about their positive experiences at Cornwallis.
Mrs Linney-Drouet said: “I was delighted to be able to welcome so many families to our Open Evening. We received an overwhelming response, with many positive comments, particularly about our fantastic students who volunteered as guides and helpers for the evening.
“I am extremely proud of the students and of the staff, who helped to showcase the fantastic curriculum and facilities we have at Cornwallis Academy.”
One parent who wrote to the academy after the event, described their student guide as “knowledgeable about the school. The parent added, “She could see my daughter needed some encouragement and was at hand to help her confidence. She is a credit to her school and her parents.”
Another parent praised their Year 7 guide for being a “lovely, polite, mature and confident.” They added, “For someone who only just started at the school a few weeks ago, he did a fantastic job of showing us round.”
