NLL Crowned Basketball Champions
New Line Learning once again showed determination, hard work and an unstoppable amount of skill to walk away with the 2017 Basketball title for the Maidstone’s school district, Mr Fatania, Head of PE, reports.
New Line took no prisoners in their first game with Alex S setting the standard to open up, scoring with a beautifully performed layup. The score continued to rise as NLL dominated and the defensive work rate in the back court was exceptional. A determined Orion J worked tirelessly to support in attack and defence. The result 14 – 0.
The second game against Holmesdale School was no different, NLL playing against students that were much taller and stronger. Gregas showed some unbelieve composure sinking two 3-pointers under pressure. We continued to show our dominance as the boys once again defended with effective communication and organisation.
After two games we were still yet to concede a basket and won 16 – 0. Alex and Gregas led the scoring, with several points each to their name.
This final game proved to be the hardest test of all, playing a fierce and fast-paced Malling School. The boys took the lead again after several failed attempts where we began to wonder if we would ever score, with the basket seeming to get smaller and smaller with every rebound. Gregas proved to be clinical again, opening the scoring but the fairytale was not written as Mailling came back and showed they were going to make us work hard for our victory and title. Orion dribbled the ball through a flurry of defenders and provoked fouls, which led to his scoring bombardment. He tallied up the score and before we knew it, NLL were 14 – 2 up. The game and title all but sealed.
A fantastic performance from the boys that represented the school and a absolute credit to themselves showing that hard work and teamwork can pay off. In this case it lead NLL to become the Under 16 Maidstone Basketball Champions!
