New PAWS Committee Elected
Parents, carers and staff of Tiger Primary School have successfully elected a new committee for PAWS (Paws and Wider Support).
At the group’s annual general meeting, which took place on Monday, 11th January, Lalita Simon-Creasey was appointed as chairman for a second year.
Mrs Simon-Creasey is joined by a new treasurer, Ian Thorndycraft, as well as six ordinary committee members; Sarah Edwards, Nina Humphrey, Lewis French, Sarah Jones, Martin Riches and Sasha Kamenetski.
During the last year, PAWS raised over £11,000 through a variety of events including a quiz night, Christmas and summer fairs, discos and competitions.
More than £7,800 has gone towards improvements at Tiger Primary School, such as house t-shirts, a piano, scooters, trips and a defibrillator worth £830. The biggest expense was a trim trail and playground markings, which cost around £5,300.
At least £2,480 has been donated to charities, including Children in Need.
Principal, Charlotte Scott, said: “I would like to thank last year’s committee for all of their hard work and dedication. Their efforts have really benefited the children and the whole school community.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to welcome the new members of PAWS. We really do appreciate your support.
“I look forward to working with you all on the exciting events we have planned for 2016.”
During the meeting, it was also decided to change the format of the group from a Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) to a Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA). This will allow grandparents and other relatives to be involved.
