Childcare & Education
Level: Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Childcare and Education
Entry Requirements: Learners must be at least 16 years old, with a C grade in Maths and English GCSE.
The two year CACHE Level 3 course enables learners to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years. Upon completion of the full diploma in Child Care and Education, learners are able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators, or access Higher Education.
Learners taking the CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) course will need to have access to real work environments as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. CACHE recommend 750 hours over the two years. The CACHE department will guide you through your placement and will fully support you in finding your placements, which will consist of a Nursery, a Primary School, and a Baby Unit.
Learners will have 15 mandatory units to complete and will gain knowledge of a range of topics such as child development, children’s health, supporting literacy, supporting mathematics, to internal perspectives related to childcare.
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. All units are graded A*-D. You will also need to complete an effective practice study task and one extended assessment task (externally set and externally marked).
The CACHE Level 3 in Child Care and Education course enables learners to access Higher Education, such as courses in Primary Teaching, Childhood and Youth Studies, Midwifery, Child Nursing, and many more. These would be dependent on your overall grades and the university’s entry requirements (UCAS).
Alternatively, learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors, such as:
- Early years educator
- Practitioner in day nurseries
- Practitioner in nursery schools
- Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
- Pre-school worker
- Home based childcarer (childminder)
