World Book Day Celebrations at FST
Future Schools Trust pulled out all of the stops to celebrate 2017’s World Book Day with a range of fun activities.
At New Line Learning Academy, students and staff enjoyed a week of book-related celebrations. During the week, the academy hosted a variety of activities, including a spelling bee, book-themed quizzes, a book swap and writing tasks. The academy also welcomed a comedy writer on Tuesday, who ran workshops with each year group.
The school also welcomed a comedy writer and asked students and staff to submit photographs of themselves reading in unusual places, with a prize for the best one!
On World Book Day itself, the kitchen team served a Roald Dahl themed menu, which was a big hit with the students and staff! The menu included High Witch Hot Dogs, Fantastic Mr Fox Fries, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Fudge Cake and George’s Marvellous Medicine Fruit Punch.
Miss Simmons, Literacy Coordinator for NLL, said: “The week has been a great success and the themed menu was fantastic. The students really engaged with all of the tasks and enjoyed the various activities. Thank you to everyone for being involved and for making it a fantastic week.”
At Little Learners Nursery and Tiger Primary School, the children marked the national reading event by wearing their pyjamas for a day of reading and listening. At Tiger, each year group took part in a carousel of book-related activities, which included reading stories in makeshift dens and making bookmarks. There was also a potato decorating competition, which saw the children turn a simple spud into their favourite book characters! The day finished with the pupils enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while listening to stories.
