About Us

Cornwallis Academy has been completely transformed since it opened its new building in September 2011. The Academy now offers outstanding facilities for students aged 11 - 18 and an enhanced 21st century curriculum.

Facilities include learning plazas, specialist Sixth Form centre and performing arts theatres. There are also music and art studios, hi-tech specialist rooms and exceptional sporting facilities.

With its specialism in Language and Science, Cornwallis Academy has a real focus on students obtaining valuable skills to help them in their careers, with strong links established in the business world so they can achieve their goals.

There is also a thriving Sixth Form offering more than 45 courses. These include media studies, film studies, photography, physics, art, childcare, psychology and government and politics and 75% of sixth form students go on to university.

In addition, the Academy employs exceptional teaching staff with outstanding qualifications and provides continuous training for teachers to ensure pupils gain the best standard of education possible and reach their maximum potential.

Of particular note is a mentoring model being pioneered with Yale University so teaching staff can assist students in improving their social and emotional skills. Individual learning amongst students is also promoted with great emphasis on using ICT in learning programmes.

Head Teacher, Mr David Simons, who has been teaching at Cornwallis since 2004, says: "The new build will present lots of exciting educational opportunities for all of our learners at Cornwallis Academy and the wider community."
