MP Helen Grant visits Cornwallis new build

A special visitor was given a tour of the new build at Cornwallis Academy today on Friday 18 July 2011.

Local MP Helen Grant and Sam Lain, who was accompanying Helen on work experience, were shown around the new facility by Vice Principals Alan Enfield and Charlie McGregor.

Within the 45 minute tour Helen was able to see the plaza spaces, vestibules, Design Technology, Science areas, the Sixth Form Centre and cafeteria, art, music, media rooms and sports hall.

Helen said: "I was incredibly impressed with the progress Cornwallis Academy has made since my last visit. You can already sense how inspiring the new buildings will be, and it is a great credit to the team behind the project. I am delighted Maidstone and the Weald will be home to such an impressive Academy which I am sure will be held high as an inspiration to learning for all to see."

The MP for Maidstone and The Weald was also introduced to Tony Harris, Senior Project Manager for contractor Carillion, the company behind the new build. Helen plans to return to Cornwallis during the summer, before the new building opens to students in September 2011.

Vice Principal, Charlie McGregor, said: "We are delighted that Helen could take time out from her busy schedule to see our exciting new learning environment and we look forward to her returning in the summer term."
