China Summer Camp 2011
Following last year's successful trip to China, plans for this year's
China Summer Camp have been unveiled. 12 students and three members of
staff from Cornwallis and New Line Learning Academies will visit the
country from 13-28 July.
This annual visit has been organised by the Specialist Schools and Academies
Trust (SSAT) and all costs incurred in China will be funded by Hanban,
which is affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education and committed
to providing Chinese language and cultural teaching resources and
services worldwide.
During the two week visit, participants will spend approximately three
days visiting places of historical and cultural interest in Beijing.
They will then spend the majority of their time in host institutions in
one of four provinces/cities. Host provinces/cities are currently being
agreed and will be announced in May. In previous years they have
included Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Chongqing.
During their time in the provinces/cities, participants will take part in:
- at least 20 hours of Chinese learning
- traditional Chinese cultural activities
- visits to local historical and cultural places of interest
- activities with local Chinese students
- home visits/stays
Head of Mandarin at NLL and Cornwallis Academies, Annabel Parker said:
"This trip is an amazing opportunity and gives our students an insight
into Chinese culture and language. This is a once in a lifetime
experience and I am sure they will enjoy every second of it and bring
back some great memories."
