Free School Proposal

What is a Free School?
Free Schools are all-ability state-funded schools set up in response to local need in order to improve education for children in their community. The right school can transform a child’s life and help them achieve things they may never have imagined.

Who are we?
We are Future Schools Trust and we already run two academies in Maidstone – New Line Learning Academy and Cornwallis Academy.

What is our proposal?
Our aim is to open a Free School in Boughton Lane, Loose, from September 2012 and we are currently conducting a consultation with the community to gauge interest in this proposal. The school will:
• Cater for children aged 4 – 11 (Reception – Year 6)
• Offer the standard curriculum plus personalised support
• Focus on Mandarin alongside English to provide early experience of a foreign
   language
• Develop Abacus training and methods in numeracy to improve mathematical ability
• Encourage all children to learn how to play a musical instrument
• Maximising the academic and social development of every child through the
application of educational theory for the 21st Century
• Be open from 7.30am to 6.00pm – of particular benefit to working parents
• Provide extension classes in music, sports and the arts
• Ensure a healthy breakfast, lunch and tea is on offer to all students

Who do parents contact for more information?

We are holding a Free School Information Evening on Wednesday 11 May at 7pm at New Line Learning Academy where presentations about the proposal will be made. Alternatively, if you have specific queries to raise please email Dr Chris Gerry at freeschool@newlinelearning.com
